High efficiency and low-cost LiBr absorption machine for solar air conditioning.

Author(s) : CHEN Y., KANG Y., SHI M. H.

Summary

Global energy shortage and environmental deterioration have stimulated solar-energy application. The economic benefits are still the main concern for application of solar driven air-conditioning. A new scheme of utilization of solar energy is presented, which focuses on domestic buildings, arranges solar collector arrays on the roof of the building, supplies hot water for the whole community in the building year-round and supplies air-conditioning chilling in summer and heating in winter for rooms in the top one of two floors with a LiBr absorption machine. A combined double-effect and single-effect LiBr absorption cycle is proposed, which enables the machine to operate within a double-effect cycle and also accumulate heat in a hot water tank during irradiation during a daytime and within a single-effect one, the heat supplied by the accumulated hot water tank in the remaining time. Because the required heating temperatures for the two cycles are far different, the density of energy storage is very high. Finally, a scheme for a LiBr absorption machine consisting in plate-shell heat exchangers is presented, which is a suitable type of small-size machine for solar air conditioning.
