Summary

A CRYOSURGICAL SYSTEM BASED ON JOULE-THOMSON EXPANSION OF NIT ROUS OXIDE/CARBON DIOXIDE WAS DEVELOPED AND RIGOROUSLY TESTED IN VARIOUS CRYOSURGICAL APPLICATIONS. IT ENABLES, FOR EXAMPLE, THE USE OF INDIGENOUS, EASILY AVAILABLE NITROUS OXIDE GAS FOR THE DESTRUCTION OF MALIGNANT TUMOURS IN PLACE OF LIQUID NITROGEN. OUT OF THE TOTAL 250 CASES OVER A PERIOD OF 8 YEARS, ABOUT 60% HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFULLY TREATED IN THE FACE, THROAT AND NECK AREA. IN THE CASE OF BENIGN AND PREMALIGNANT TUMOURS OF THE SAME NUMBER OF CASES, THERE HAVE BEEN PRACTICALLY NO FAILURES.
