Hybrid absorption/compression heat pump for space application.

Summary

The authors describe a compression/absorption heat pump for thermal control of a spacecraft. The heat is a 2 kilowatts payload supplied to the generator and the heat produced in the absorber is transferred to the heat sink through a space radiator. To reject the heat, the temperature of the space radiator must be higher than the lunar day environment (about 343 K). A theoretical analysis of the performance and the mass of three hybrid machines working with different mixtures has been conducted. The thermodynamic performance and masses are presented, discussed and compared with a classical vapour compression cycle.
