Summary
Hydrocarbons as refrigerants in car air conditioning units have clear environmental advantages and have successfully replaced R12 and R134a in over 200,000 car air conditioning units in the USA. In Australia ignition sources and ventilation rate were determined for ten popular cars. The insurance risk increment calculated from these results was negative. Earlier risk estimates appear far too high.
