Ice and snow accretion on structures.

Author(s) : POOTS G.

Type of monograph: Book

Summary

This book in the "Applied and Engineering Mathematics Series" presents the current theory of atmospheric icing on simple structures, the mathematical formulation of such problems and describes many new methods for their solution. Illustrations of the mathematical models are drawn from electrical, civil and aeronautical engineering. The role of meteorological variables is highlighted. Section headings are: ice and snow-accretion kinetics; two-dimensional and axisymmetric models for wet-snow accretion; an introduction to atmospheric icing; aspects of freezing-rain precipitation; modelling of ice and wet-snow accretion on overhead transmission lines; thermodynamic models of wet-snow accretion: liquid water content, snow shedding, saw-tooth loading, Joule heating; dynamical models for wet-snow accretion on overhead transmission lines: aerodynamic torque, snow shedding; wet-snow accretion on rotating samplers (Iceload database for a fixed sampler and overhead-line conductor: a transfer function); anti-accretion.
