Ice removal thanks to a photon process.

Un déglaceur photonique pour s'attaquer au verglas.

Type of article: Article

Summary

Following the "ice crisis" in January 1998, several concepts have been developed in order to prevent ice from accumulating or to enable fast ice removal. One of these processes, ice removal using a photon process, involves use of a light beam which breaks down ice on fittings and equipment. This innovative equipment has been developed by IREQ. It was initially designed in order to remove ice forming on sectionalizing switches in high-voltage substations, and enables ice removal to be performed on a remote-control and safe basis. Various research prototypes of equipment used to remove ice are presented.
