Summary

THE PRINCIPLES AND ADVANTAGES OF ICE-STORAGE SYSTEMS ARE GIVE IN WHICH A FILM FLOWS OVER A MELTING-ICE SURFACE. WORK UNDERTAKEN IN THIS FIELD IS REVIEWED. THE RESULTS ARE GIVEN OF TESTS WHICH MADE IT POSSIBLE TO DETERMINE THE SURFACE HEAT-TRANSFER COEFFICIENT OF ICE AS A FUNCTION OF THE VOLUMETRIC DENSITY OF THE FILM FLOW. THE DIAGRAM OF THE TEST RIG USED IS DESCRIBED. AN EMPIRICAL RELATIONSHIP WAS DEDUCED, WHICH IS USED FOR CALCULATIONS. A NEW TYPE OF FILM-FLOW ICE-STORAGE SYSTEM WAS DEVELOPED. C.C.
