Summary

The forthcoming expansion of the electricity contract market in England and Wales in April 1994 will have far-reaching consequences on energy usage in buildings. The paper examines the effect of the expansion on the utilization of ice thermal storage in England and Wales. Electricity pool selling prices are analyzed, and a cost study is carried out to compare ice storage operating costs under a pool based contract with those incurred while running under a maximum-demand tariff.
