IDENTIFICATION OF TEMPERATURE DEPENDENT THERMOPHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF INSULATING MATERIALS.

Summary
A NEW TECHNIQUE FOR THERMOPHYSICAL PROPERTIES DETERMINATION OF INSULATING MATERIALS FROM TRANSIENT TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENTS IS PRESENTED. THE ESTIMATOR ALGORITHM IS BASED ON THE MINIMIZATION OF THE SQUARED ERROR FUNCTION USING AN ADAPTED VERSION OF THE GAUSS LINEARIZATION METHOD. THE TEMPERATURE DEPENDENT THERMAL DIFFUSIVITY AND THE NORMALIZED HEAT CAPACITY ARE RECONSTRUCTED IN THE FORM OF A POLYNOMIAL APPROXIMATION SOLVING THE INVERSE, NON-LINEAR, TRANSIENT, HEAT CONDUCTION EQUATION IN WHICH THE THERMOPHYSICAL PARAMETERS ARE THE UNKNOWN FUNCTIONS AND THE TEMPERATURE TIME VARIATIONS ON THE BOUNDARIES AND INSIDE THE SPECIMEN, AT KNOWN POSITIONS, ARE THE MEASURED VARIABLES. FROM A SINGLE ONE HOUR EXPERIMENT, A QUADRATIC APPROXIMATION FOR THERMAL DIFFUSIVITY AND FOR HEAT CAPACITY (FIVE UNKNOWN COEFFICIENTS), VALID FOR A TEMPERATURE RANGE OF ABOUT 250 DEG C, CAN BE EASILY DETERMINED.
