Summary
The influence of GWP still remains for refrigerant, and it is required to change to a lower GWP refrigerant. One of the candidates is A3 refrigerant that has higher flammability, and is easier to ignite due to low ignition energy than A2L refrigerant. It is, therefore, important to identify the potential ignition sources for A3 refrigerant. There are a variety of things which may be regarded as ignition source, such as electric sparks, and static electricity, especially indoors. JRAIA has been working on risk assessment of residential air conditioners using A3 refrigerant since July 2016. Our first report (Tamura et al. (2020)) extracted various potential indoor ignition sources of the A3 refrigerant. In this paper, CFD analyses for refrigerant leakage from indoor unit were carried out, the height of flammable space was calculated, and ignition sources for A3 refrigerants were specified.
