Impact of compressor modulation technologies upon seasonal system efficiency.

Author(s) : VÍSEK M.

Summary

Different capacity modulation technologies exist on the compressor market such as variable speed and pulse width modulation. The latter one is known mainly from the application in scroll compressors but currently available for reciprocating compressors as well. Modulation is used in the systems to generate seasonal efficiency improvements. Different system modulation schemes for scroll and reciprocating compressors are discussed. Field test results are presented and simulation of the modulation impact upon seasonal EER is given. Different approaches to calculate SEER values, as being presently developed, are applied and shown. Simulation results are relevant to various applications such as heat pump, air conditioning and refrigeration.
