Describes the effect of an increase in the ventilation rate on the energy costs of a large existing office building in Montreal, based on computer simulation. States an increase in total annual energy cost of 3.2%, or USD 37,000 could be expected if the outside air is increased from the current 7.6 to 10 L/s/person, which corresponds to ASHRAE recommendations. States that by extrapolating the result to the case where the ventilation rate is increased from 2.4 to 10 L/s/person, the expected increase would be about 10%, or USD 117,300. Notes that this increase in total annual energy costs is higher than those previously estimated by other works.
