Improvement of the safety level during operation of ammonia refrigerating installations.

[In Russian. / En russe.]

Summary

Safety of installations may be reached by reducing the ammonia mass in the installation as a whole. It means to change the configuration of refrigerating installations: refusal of ammonia capacious batteries in cold rooms, reducing equipment units, replacement of old compressors. It is possible to increase ammonia refrigerating installation safety by dividing the installation into blocs with a small quantity of ammonia. One way to create safe ammonia systems is to switch to systems with a secondary refrigerant. In such a case, a chiller is used as a refrigerating machine. To reduce ammonia capacity, plate heat exchangers are used. If the ammonia capacity of the chiller doesn't exceed 50 kg, the installation is considered as safe. Refrigerating systems with indirect ammonia evaporation and systems with secondary refrigerants cooled in the ammonia refrigerating machine are compared. The criteria of the comparison are cited.
