Improving integration and reliability of heat pumps in industrial drying processes.

Author(s) : MINEA V.

Summary

Drying heat pumps may provide drying times similar to conventional technologies while generating energy savings and enhancing final product quality. However, their performances have been disappointing for many years due to inappropriate configurations, integration and controls. To provide appropriate thermodynamic conditions and avoid drawbacks such as low energy performances and running troubleshooting, a number of design and control rules are required for the complex dryer/heat pump coupled system. This paper focuses on several technical aspects simultaneously aiming at improving the integration and reliability of industrial drying heat pumps.
