Summary
This article describes the requirements defining a "passive" building (annual energy consumption per m2). Means to achieve these requirements are described, including: strengthening insulation; improving ventilation design (using regenerative heat exchangers); using solar energy and exhaust air heat pumps to produce domestic water. Concrete examples in Germany are presented.
