Independent testing and certification of cooling towers.
Author(s) : RULE J.
Type of article: Article
Summary
The author quotes a field testing company's claim that 90% of cooling towers fail to meet published performance, on average by as much as 30%. It is suggested that field testing or factory certification be specified on all normal contracts. Also that mid-season performance be specified so that tests can be carried out at other than peak design conditions. The author also advises that specifying extra-high wet bulb is not a method of overcoming poor tower performance. D.W.H.
