Indirect measurement on the magnetocaloric effect using a novel DSC with magnetic field.

Author(s) : JEPPESEN S., LINDEROTH S., PRYDS N., et al.

Summary

A new magnetic field differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) has been built for indirect determination of the magnetocaloric effect. The principle for constructing the calorimeter is based on that suggested by Plackowski et al., where commercial Peltier elements are used as heat-flow sensors. Measurements obtained with the new DSC have been compared with a zerofield commercial DSC. A case study with the LaCaMnO system and gallium has been performed to demonstrate the sensitivity and the accuracy of the setup.
