Summary

A 350-kilowatt two-stage, half-effect water-lithium bromide absorption chiller driven by low-temperature hot water has successfully been operated in a combined heat and power (CHP) plant in Beijing, China. This chiller can produce 9 deg C chilled water at a cooling water temperature of 32 deg C. The temperature of hot water supplied to generators can be from 75 to 86 deg C and that leaving generators is at about 60 deg C. The average chiller's COP is about 0.33 and 0.38. The paper has demonstrated that a two-stage absorption chiller is advantageous in recovering waste heat of even lower grade, as compared to a single-stage absorption chiller and that industrial application of a two-stage absorption has greater potential in recovering waste heat in various sectors of industry.
