Summary

The author presents a study of the environmental benefits of industrial heat pumps. The study provides information about the technology and the industrial processes in which heat pumps can be applied, with emphasis on (thermodynamically) appropriate placements in the process. It also includes an estimate of the current number of industrial heat pumps in operation (with a total of about 7,000) and market potential for various types of heat pump and related energy savings and emissions reductions.
