Influence of HTS application on cryogenics now and in the future.

Author(s) : KOMAREK P.

Summary

The cryogenic needs for HTS applications triggered remarkable progress in new or improved cryocooler and refrigerator systems of the required sizes and temperature ranges, quite specific for the different applications. Bi-type HTS wires allow only for low field applications, as fault current limiters and transmission cables, cooling around 70 K. Y-type HTS, already standard as thin films for electronic applications, e.g. as microwave filters for cellular phone base stations, will change the picture and for most applications the 70 K cooling range can than be envisaged. However, Y-type conductors have still to pass further development steps.
