Summary
The development of flower bulbs is controlled mainly by temperature. The transition from one developmental phase into another is accelerated or delayed, promoted or prevented by environmental temperatures. The characteristic pattern of growth is called thermomorphogenesis. Controlled by specific temperature treatments, tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, irises and lilies can be brought to flower the whole year round. Improper temperature conditions can lead to disorders and teratogenic abnormalities. Some of these effects are mentioned.
