Influence of surfactants on CO2 hydrate slurry formation.
Author(s) : DELAHAYE A., FOURNAISON L., MARTINEZ M. C., et al.
Summary
CO2 hydrate slurries can be good candidates for secondary refrigeration applications. In fact, CO2 hydrates have a high dissociation enthalpy and can be formed by gas injection, then avoiding the use of mechanical processes. However, in order to be efficient, CO2 hydrate slurries must have good flowing conditions with a solid fraction of about 30%. Previous works in dynamic loop showed that instability phenomena as hydrate agglomerations or pressure variations can appear several hours after hydrate formation. The use of appropriate surfactants could improve the slurry stability. These additives can have an influence on the CO2 dissolution kinetics and thus on the hydrate formation kinetics. Moreover, some of them have been found to exhibit dispersant properties in aqueous systems. In this paper, the authors used an experimental device to measure the influence of various additives on the CO2 dissolution and CO2 hydrate formation kinetics in static and dynamic conditions.
