Summary

THE REGION OF EXISTENCE OF THE INHOMOGENEOUS SUPERCONDUCTING STATE IN QUASI ONE-DIMENSIONAL SUPERCONDUCTORS IS MUCH WIDER THAN THAT FOR QUASI TWO-DIMENSIONAL AND THREE-DIMENSIONAL SUPERCONDUCTORS. THE FINITE MAGNITUDE OF THE PARAMAGNETIC LIMIT IN THIS CASE IS ENSURED BY SCATTERING BY IMPURITIES, AND NEAR THE TRICRITICAL POINT THE INHOMOGENEOUS PHASE ARISES VIA A FIRST ORDER TRANSITION. THE PHASE DIAGRAM AND PROPERTIES OF THE INHOMOGENEOUS SUPERCONDUCTING STATE ARE CONSIDERED.
