Summary

In April 1993, the first type of a new generation of high efficient absorption heat pumps was installed in the government building in Maastricht. The ABRES 250 is a gas-driven machine, which is operating with ammonia as the refrigerant. Its special merits are high efficiency and compactness. The high COP is realised by a perfected process, by which the machine is driven continuously between a single- and two-stage process depending on the working conditions. Its low-size results from the consequent use of compact heat exchangers of the plate-fin heat-exchanger type.
