Innovative electrical concepts for transport refrigeration units.

Number: pap. ID: 534

Author(s) : STUMPF A., CHAKIACHVILI B., AWWAD N.

Summary

Two examples of technical solutions to reduce the environmental impact and fuel consumption of transport refrigeration units are presented in this article. Both solutions rely on hermetic circuits and minimization of refrigerant leaks, while benefiting from the availability of electrical power in road and standby modes. Minimizing the refrigerant charge, eliminating flexible refrigerant hoses, clutches and belts will bring a maximum of benefits to the end-user. Both systems use new technologies to reduce part load consumption: one relies on variable speed compression, one on a dual stage economized solution.
