Energy efficiency of transport refrigeration units.
Author(s) : MEFFERT H. F. T., INFANTE FERREIRA C. A.
Summary
Conditioning of sensitive cargoes within a narrow controlled range of product temperatures, minimum power consumption, and low investment, appear conflicting requirements for transport refrigeration units. Advanced control methods can reconcile the contradictory demands. Because multipurpose reefer units operate most of the time under part load conditions, the coefficient of system performance (COSP) as part load conditions is responsible for the total power consumption, a criterion for the choice of equipment. Manufacturers should specify part load power consumption and air circulation under standard conditions to facilitate a rational choice of energy efficient and temperature control effective transport refrigeration equipment.
