Investigation of additive effectiveness with infrared sensor and dynamic surface tension measurements.

Summary

In an effort to generate some understanding of the effectiveness of additives, a new theory, accompanied by preliminary support data, is advanced here. The ability of an additive to enhance mass transfer may be related not so much to its activity at the interface, but to its ability to diffuse and absorb at the interface. The mechanism of diffusion and adsorption is labeled the diffusion theory. Both infrared measurements of the interface energy level, and dynamic surface tension measurements seem to support the diffusion theory, although more data are required before its consistency can be established.
