Summary

REPARATIVE PROCESSES HAVE BEEN FOUND IN MITOCHONDRIAL MEMBRANES SUBJECTED TO FREEZE-THAWING WITHOUT CRYOPROTECTANTS. THE TEMPERATURE DEPENDENT REPARATION OF MEMBRANES WAS ACCOMPANIED WITH RECONSTITUTION OF OXIDATIVE PHOSPHORYLATION AND APPEARED TO BE INDEPENDENT OF THE PRESENCE OF SUB-STRATES, ATP, OXYGEN AND DECOUPLERS IN THE PRESERVATION ME THE ROLE OF SPONTANEOUS REPARATION IN MITOCHONDRIAL MEMBRANES IN THE RECOVERY OF CELLULAR FUNCTION AFTER LOW TEMPERATURE APPLICATION IS DISCUSSED.
