Summary
Paper provides with experimental investigations of injector for application to heat driven refrigeration system. In this case it is possible to avoid application of mechanical liquid pump to pressurise liquid phase that should be fed to the vapour generator in the ejector refrigeration system. Although the power consumption by mechanical liquid pump may be thought as insignificant for the ejector refrigeration system, the investment cost share dominates. Since injector is a simple device without any moving part, this could help with reduce the costs of the system as well as improve reliability of the system operation. The design of the prototype two-phase vapour-liquid injector dedicated for operation with synthetic low-GWP refrigerant R1234ze is presented. The testing stand and experimental procedure are described. The paper provides with the first demonstration of fully passive operation of the injector, i.e. the pumping produced by the injector along with pressure increase is achieved as an effect of available temperature difference only. The experimental results covered the assessment of the efficiency of operation of the injector as well as condensation heat transfer coefficient. Note that condensation shock wave is a driving mechanism of the injector operation, therefore the assessment of heat transfer rate is important for the discussed injector.
