Summary
The requirements and investigations explained in the paper show that air conditioning systems for railway vehicles can have the same technical standards as those for buildings. However for some aspects of thermal comfort, some restrictions are necessary. Experiences with tests in a climatic controlled wind tunnel over many decades have helped to improve the environmental control, reliability and safety of railway vehicles under extreme climatic conditions. But the experience of testing has shown that the entire vehicle should be examined, for even best control of components doesn't guarantee the proper function of the complete vehicle system.
