Large tanks: vertical or horizontal?

Author(s) : CHRZ V., KRIVAN J., KOUBA M.

Summary

Large cryogenic storage tanks can be of a vertical or horizontal design. Various project, design and transport aspects are discussed; these should be taken into account before a decision is made concerning which of the two variants would be the most economical. Until a final decision on the project arrangement of a large cryogenic tank is made, all aspects of the project must be considered and a producer's evaluation of costs and other advice can be recommended. According to Ferox's experience, horizontal tank production costs for the same parameters may be 5 to 20% higher.
