THE PRESENT TYPES OF CABINET LIGHTING WITH FLUORESCENT TUBES ARE REVIEWED, IN PARTICULAR THE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE HEAT PRODUCED BY THE LAMPS, CONDUCTION ALONG SHELVES AND INTO THE PRODUCT. FIBRE OPTIC LAMPS HAVE A HIGHER FIRST COST BUT HAVE LITTLE OR NO POWER DISSIPATION INSIDE THE CABINET, ARE LONGER LASTING, REQUIRE LITTLE OR NO MAINTENANCE AND PRODUCE A BETTER LIGHT AT LOW TEMPERATURES.
