Summary

In this communication, a least power point tracking (LPPT) control algorithm is introduced and applied to a refrigeration system for the very first time. The LPPT is an adaptive version of an also novel dual-speed control, which is an on-off control with two non-null speed values: the lower one is chosen to minimize the energy consumption, whereas the higher speed value is used to reject strong disturbances. The LPPT and dual-speed results were compared with other control techniques commonly used in the realm of refrigeration systems, namely on-off (baseline), and proportional-integral. Experimental analyses revealed that the LPPT control drew about 16% less energy than the baseline control.
