Summary
Reports on a project by the Institute of Hygiene for the Ruhr Region, Gelsenkirchen, to investigate whether pipe materials have any particular influence on the multiplication of Legionella in drinking water. Describes the test set-up and lists in a table the nine pipe materials tested. Describes the test procedures and supplies the results of sampling Legionella numbers after periods of up to 44 weeks. Discusses the findings and concludes that under the conditions investigated, the pipe material is of little significance as regards Legionella colonisation.
