Summary

DURING MARCH 1980, AT LEAST 14 CASES OF LEGIONELLOSIS WERE DIAGNOSED ON 1,000 PEOPLE WORKING IN A SAME 6-MONTH OLD BUILDING. THE RISKS WERE HIGHER FOR PEOPLE OVER 50 YEARS OLD. THE OUTBREAK OCCURRED WITH THE OPERATION OF THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM. LEGIONELLA PNEUMOPHILA 1, 4 AND 6 WAS IDENTIFIED IN WATER SAMPLES FROM THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM AT A PLACE WHERE A RECENT EXCAVATION HAD BEEN MADE.
