Summary

From an actual example in which two refrigeration units destined for use in the same small agri-food application, this investigation contributes mainly to the enrichment of overall assessment approaches taking into account all environmental impacts. The results of the LCA clearly indicate that significant environmental benefits can be derived from the sustainable choice of microchannel technology and compact heat exchangers in the refrigeration field. Hence, as the results point out, these technologies can open up a promising future for sustainable refrigeration systems.
