LITERATURE REPORTING OF SHELF LIFE DATA. WHAT DOES IT ALL MEAN.

Summary

PUBLISHED INFORMATION ON THE FROZEN SHELF LIFE OF FISHERY PRODUCTS FROM SEVERAL SPECIES WAS REVIEWED AND COLLATED. THE DATA FROM THOSE PUBLICATIONS, WHICH REPORTED AN END OF SHELF LIFE, WERE REPRODUCED IN TABULAR AND GRAPHICAL FORM TO INDICATE RANGES IN SHELF LIFE REPORTED BY DIFFERENT RESEARCHERS. THE RESULTS SHOW BROAD RANGES OF SHELF LIFE FOR SIMILAR SPECIES AT SIMILAR TEMPERATURES. THIS INDICATES THAT THERE SHOULD BE SOME STANDARDIZATION IN REGARD TO MEASURING AND REPORTING SHELF LIFE DATA IN THE PUBLISHED LITERATURE.
