LOAD SHEDDING TECHNIQUES.

Type of article: Article

Summary

ELECTRICITY SUPPLY TARIFFS ARE BASED USUALLY ON AN AVERAGE HIGH DEMAND OVER A SHORT DEMAND PERIOD AT PEAK LOAD TIMES. TO REDUCE BILLS, THE PEAK PERIOD DEMAND CAN BE REDUCED BY JUDICIOUS SHORT TIME LOAD SHEDDING. HOWEVER, BECAUSE EQUIPMENT SUCH AS FANS AND CHILLERS MAY GIVE TROUBLE WHEN CYCLED RAPIDLY, THE CHOICE OF LOADS TO BE SHED AND THE TIME OF SHEDDING IS IMPORTANT. THE ARTICLE ILLUSTRATES BY WORKED EXAMPLE SOME WAYS IN WHICH LOAD SHEDDING MAY BEST BE ACCOMPLISHED, IN PARTICULAR IF OPTIMISATION FEATURES ARE BUILT INTO A COMPUTER PROGRAM FOR BUILDING ENERGY MANAGEMENT.
