Type of article: Article

Summary

The authors summarize the history of refrigerated transport regulations in Europe. They then discuss in detail two logistic novelties: multi-temperature vehicles and mini-containers. Multi-temperature vehicles are conventional ones fitted with partition walls which can be fixed, moveable or flexible. The temperature of each compartment is maintained by a refrigerating unit or by air circulation. Mini-containers can be used as simple insulated containers, or can be kept at the required temperature by use of eutectic plates, Peltier-effect devices or dry ice. Advantages and disadvantages of these two inventions are discussed, as well as standardization and testing.
