Summary

THE FIRST PART OF THE PAPER GIVES THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE LONG DISTANCE TRANSPORT OF FRESH OR FROZEN PERISHABLES BY MECHANICALLY REFRIGERATED RAILWAY TRUCKS. INTHE SECOND PART THE AUTHORS CALCULATED OPERATING COSTS AND SHOWED THE ECONOMIC ADVANTAGES OF REPLACING REFRIGERATED BY MECHANICALLY REFRIGERATED TRUCKS. THE COST OF COOLING IS ABOUT HALF LOWER AND IT IS POSSIBLE TO OBTAIN LOWER TEMPERATURES. THEY ALSO SHOW THE ADVANTAGES OF TRANSPORT BY INSULATED TRUCKS COMPARED TO INSULATED CONTAINERS.
