Loss assessment methods for durable stored products in the tropics: appropriateness and outstanding needs.
Author(s) : WRIGHT M. A. P.
Type of article: Article
Summary
The paper reviews recent work on storage losses in the Tropics and aims to assess whether the loss figures produced reflect the farmer's perception of loss, to establish whether the methodologies used are appropriate, and to assess how realistic the economic values attributed to losses are. Rapid loss assessment methods are sufficiently accurate for most purposes and should be used in field studies. For some crops or farming systems, novel loss assessment methodologies may be needed.
