Summary

A RADIAL HEAT FLOW TYPE CYLINDRICAL CALORIMETER GUARDED AT BOTH ENDS HAS BEEN FABRICATED FOR MEASURING APPARENT MEAN THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY OF POWDER INSULATION. MEASUREMENTS HAVE BEEN MADE ON A NUMBER OF PARTICLE SIZES OF EXFOLIATED VERMICULITE AT DIFFERENT VACUUM LEVELS FROM 300 TO 77 K. EXFOLIATED VERMICULITE MAY BE PROFITABLY USED IN LOW COST CRYOGENIC INSULATION SYSTEM.
