Summary
Measurement of ethylene production by intact fruits was used to determine the tolerance of apple cultivars to chilling stress. Four cultivars were exposed to a temperature of -1.5 °C for up to 520 hours. Chill-induced ethylene production was demonstrated in one cultivar after exposure began, while other cultivars were not injured after 360 hours.
