Summary

EXPERIMENTAL DATA ON CREEP OF CRYSTALLINE METHANE REVEAL A CONSIDERABLE INCREASE IN THE SECONDARY CREEP RATE NEAR PHASE TRANSITION (BY A FACTOR OF 40 TO100 UNDER STRESSES OF 300 AND 440 GF/MM2 ) AND BETWEEN 9 AND 4.5 K (BY A FACTOR OF THREE FOR 200 GF/MM2 ). THE LOW-TEMPERATURE ANOMALY OF CREEP RATE IS ASSUMED TO BE DUE TO THE SPIN QUANTUM CONVERSION IN METHANE.
