MAGNETIC FILTRATION.

Author(s) : COLLAN H. K.

Summary

A SHORT REVIEW OF THE THEORY AND TECHNIQUES OF MAGNETIC FILTRATION IS GIVEN AND POSSIBLE APPLICATIONS ARE DISCUSSED. COMPARISON BETWEEN NORMAL ELECTROMAGNETS AND SUPERCONDUCTING MAGNETS SHOWS THAT IN NEAR TERM APPLICATIONS WE ARE NOT LIKELY TO SEE MAGNETIC FILTERS EMPLOYING SUPERCONDUCTING MAGNETS. PRACTICAL EXPERIENCE SHOWS, HOWEVER, THAT ALREADY AT PRESENT SUPERCONDUCTING MAGNETS POSSESS ADVANTAGES WHICH MAKE THEM INDISPENSABLE IN LABORATORY AND PILOT SCALE FILTERS. FINALLY, RESULTS OF A STUDY ON MAGNETIC FILTRATION OF STEEL HOT ROLLING MILL EFFLUENT WATERS ARE PRESENTED.
