Maximum cold energy practically chargeable in an ice-on-coil thermal storage system.

Author(s) : LEE D. Y., KANG B. H.

Summary

Based on measured data, a simulation is carried out for the charge operation and the influence of the chiller capacity on the system performance is investigated. The larger the chiller capacity is for a given storage size, the lower the efficiency of charge operation becomes. It is also found that there exists a particular chiller capacity with which the ice charge at the end of the charge operation is maximized, but a complete charge is not possible even in that case. This leads to the result that the design capacity of the storage tank should be larger than the required amount of cold energy for the peak time cooling considering the practically chargeable amount of cold energy.
