Measured performance rating method for weatherized homes.

Summary

The measured performance rating method is a short-term test procedure for predicting the building load coefficient, heating system efficiency, and annual fuel consumption of single-family detached homes. Estimates are based on empirical data collected in a single night of testing. The object of this project was to explore the efficacy of short-term monitoring methods, including detecting changes in the building load coefficient due to retrofit weatherization measures, testing occupied homes, and energy-rating new homes. The paper summarizes the results of tests conducted on eight weatherized homes and of repeated tests on two occupied homes. Advantages to the measured performance rating approach are discussed, as are its limitations when applied to weatherization testing of occupied homes.
