Measurement and simulation of energy consumption of transport refrigeration equipment.
Author(s) : CAVALIER G., STUMPF A.
Summary
In Europe, the sector of transport refrigeration is extremely concerned by the problem of energy consumption which has impacts on the environment and on the profitability of the transport companies. There is a need of complementary technical data to elaborate new standards and regulations for energy consumption of refrigerated transport equipments. At present, the use of official ATP tests data established under controlled ambient temperature according to the ATP rules (an international agreement for transport of perishable foodstuffs supported by the United Nations), can give only a partial answer regarding the energy efficiency of the marketed products. The energy consumption of other operation modes are not measured and known. On another hand, the real energy consumption of a refrigerated transport vehicle is the combination of its energy efficiency and its various conditions of operation. For that reason it is indispensable to progress in two directions: acquire knowledge trough measurements of energy consumption of the refrigeration units. Model the global energy consumption of the refrigerated truck following the usage conditions. This article presents the practical and theoretical methods developed on these two areas.
