Measurement of air circulation rate in integral refrigerated shipping containers.

Author(s) : IRVING A. R., SHEPHERD I. C.

Type of article: Article, IJR article

Summary

The total rate of air circulation determines, in part, the degree of uniformity in temperature it is possible to obtain in produce transported in a container. An apparatus has been designed, constructed and calibrated to measure the air circulation rate under variable pressure loads in both bottom and top delivery containers to an accuracy of ±2%. It has been found that compared to this apparatus, measurements with vane anemometers overestimated the flow rate by 10 to 55% and a hot-wire anemometer by 5 to 40%.
