Measurements of saturation densities in the critical region and critical locus for the binary R32/R143a system.

Author(s) : MIZUKAWA M., WATANABE K.

Summary

One of the most promising alternatives to substitute R502 is the ternary R32/R125/R143a refrigerant system. In order to elucidate the thermodynamic properties of this ternary system, it becomes very important to reveal the thermodynamic properties of the binary R32/R143a system, since those for two other binary systems, R32/R125 and R125/R143a, have already been studied to a certain extent by earlier measurements including those by the authors' contributions. The saturated vapour and liquid densities in the critical region of this mixture have been measured based on a visual observation of the meniscus disappearance in an optical cell. For the R32/R143a system, 42 saturation densities have been measured at four compositions, 20, 50, 60 and 90 mass% R32. The critical temperatures and densities for this binary refrigerant have been determined by taking into consideration the meniscus disappearing level as well as the intensity of the critical opalescence.
